Staring Down Fifty

Throughout my life, I’ve been the adventurous one, the guy who goes off exploring places well off the beaten path, does things differently, even if — perhaps because — it’s the hard way. If I’m honest, at least part of the reason it that I just can’t stomach the notion of living life in mundane fashion. Along the way, I’ve pushed the envelope on the ocean, on motorcycles, airplanes, heading out solo on different trips and continents, sometimes without so much as funds to get back home. Looking out now at the mountains of Taos, where I’ve chosen to take a break from traveling, it seems I’m still pushing the envelope, and learning from it. (more…)

Boycotting Environmentally Unfriendly Destinations

This was in response to a National Geographic Explorer edition that suggested the top 10 places NOT to go to, for environmental reasons.  I agree wholeheartedly about Antartica.  Bringing in cruise ships with 3800 people on them is going to have tremendous negative impact on an already fragile eco-system.  That said… (more…)

The importance of QUALITY Original Content

There are a zillion ways to try to fake out the search engines, the operative being “try.”  Those spiders didn’t just fall off the turnip truck though, they’re pretty Internet savvy and ahead of us most of the time.  Rather than trying to scheme your site into higher rankings, why not just give ‘em what they want and what people need?  Professionals in any industry have a lot of information to share, things that will help the public.  That doesn’t mean you’re giving away the store, the crowned jewels, or even cutting into your income to do so.
