Weighing In on Healthcare Reform

It’s a hot topic.  We’re writing on the subject for clients.  The subject is near and dear to our hearts, so I’m weighing in on it now.

The current health care “reform” bill being crammed through by the House is a disaster.  That statement is not based on any religious, political or philosophical perspective.  It’s a purely pragmatic one.  ANY bill with over 500 amendments is going to have issues, but here are the two fatal flaws as I see them: (more…)

The Age of Foolishness

Just when you think it’s gotten as bad as it can, another crazy verdict comes along.  This one awards a designer label company $32 MILLION — against a web hosting company, for a trademark infringement judged to have been performed by one o the company’s many hosting clients.  Hopefully sanity will return in appeals, but even if it is, you can easily imagine how much the legal fees will be to appeal a 32 million dollar judgment.  Where’s the sanity gone?

If this were an isolated incident, we wouldn’t be reading this, and people wouldn’t be voting at ridiculous political extremes.  More and more within the past decade or so, though, courts and attorneys seem to have thrown common sense out the window.  What’s next?  Maybe they’ll sue the retailer as well as the manufacturer next time someone swallows a quart of Draino and gets indigestion.  Wait — Can I refer to that company without my web hosting company and I end up being sued for it?
