Why the iPad Will Change the World

It took a bit of thinking to “get” the iPad, and a bit of putting the pieces together. For example:

bluetooth = remote keyboard in Appletech. Add 10 points.

Keyboard + charger already made = Use it as a sort of desktop at home… another 10 points.

iPad with Keyboard

Bluetooth Keyboard + charging base = desktop docking for home use

Then came the big understanding, the epiphany, as I pondered why the HELL they would make two versions, why anyone would want one that wasn’t connected to the ‘Net when away from your router… and why the HELL they got in bed with AT&T again.  But I trusted Apple to have a very good reason for it, so it was up to me to ponder it out.  The results:

It’s NOT Sleeping With The Enemy Part Deux.  It’s actually the other way around.  For those who want it (and a true satellite GPS) they negotiated the no-contract $30 a month UNLIMITED deal.  That’s sweet for us.  But they didnt’ marry AT&T, because T-mobile & Verizon both have pocket routers to go with their 3G service.  Still lost?  Ya get the router service, and then your iPad, iPod, iBook, i-ay-i-ay-ay, and even your friend’s Windoze machine ALL get the ‘Net, even if you’re at the beach or driving down the road in your car.  Bloody brilliant! iBling (Is the iPad just a bigger status symbol?)

Plenty of speculation… a habit, it seems.  Even though it is now announced, people STILL can’t get the facts right.  So here it is:

iBling - hang the iPad off of your neck to keep track of it and impress your friends?

I pity the fool who doesn't get an iPad!

1) bluetooth means keyboard, and wireless at that.

2) iPod cord to USB means you CAN use USB to get in and out of it.

3) AT&T deal is for $15 a month or $30 a month for unlimited data — which should include VoIP, so you can use your Bluetooth headset to make calls or listen to music too — and unlike last time, no contract required.

4) Great resolution in native mode.  Could be a bit icky when running iPhone apps til they make resolutions for the bigger screen, since it runs those thousands of apps already.

In short, the iPad can do most everything one needs a portable device for, and will make map services a LOT easier to see and read.

5) Camera is a $30 external option.

Overall, you’ll find that things work out just fine.  What isn’t available from Apple will be gotten aftermarket… and then there’s always V2.  For my part, I’ll probably wait to get one second-hand or after the prices drop, but I will want one some day soon!
